Well, not really. I’m 23.
But exactly one year ago, I attended Brooke Shaden’s workshop, Story-telling & Compositing, at Gulf Photo Plus. It was my very first photography workshop. And it was the day I decided that I want to be a Fine Art Photographer.
One of the exercises Brooke made us do was to write down three goals we wanted to accomplish within a year.
– Do at least one shoot a month
– Get into an exhibition
– Get my work on book covers
And I’m SO happy to be able to say that I ticked off all three. After the workshop I was shooting almost every week, and sometimes twice a week. I got into a group exhibition in March with The Art Beat, had my first solo exhibition in June, and got into a group exhibition in South Africa last month. A few months ago, I had my picture, Where Gravity Doesn’t Know My Name, on the cover of John Dodds’ short novel, Dead Boyfriends.
I’m telling you this just to show you that you can do anything if you set your mind to it. Know what it is you want, and go after it. Trust me, you’ll get there.
So to celebrate, I’m having a giveaway! I’m giving away one of my favorite dresses that I’ve used in a lot of shoots. I feel like even though I love it so much, it’s time for it to find a new owner (and I’ve used it too much). My sister and I call it “the Naive dress”, because that was the first picture I used it in. Here are some of the pictures with that dress:
I ripped the sleeves for two of the pictures, and it’s got red stains from when I used it for a shoot with candle wax, so it’s not exactly in excellent condition hehe.
If you wanna enter, all you have to do is leave a comment. Tell me a story, send me your favorite quote, link me to your favorite song or novel, whatever you want. But please make sure to also post your email address so I can email you if you won and ask you for your address. I’m going to write down the names of everyone who comments, then pick randomly. And whoever wins, please send me pictures if you decide to use the dress in a shoot, I’d love to see it used by someone else ❤ I’ll give this one week!
And now, my list of things I want to accomplish this year (from today till next November 15th) is exactly what I had on the last list, plus international exhibitions, a master’s degree, and some charity work including working on a project to help raise awareness on depression.
I hope you’re all having a lovely weekend ❤
